My application is a macro-enabled Word .dot written in VBA. The application is currently installed using an InstallShield setup.exe.  I understand that protecting a dot file is a headache, but the dot file itself already prevents "casual piracy" using internal code. My ultimate goal is to use ProtectionPLUS and Instant SOLO to control/manage activations and ordering of the setup.exe file, and not to have to make any changes to the app's source code.

Is what I describe possible?

If so, am I correct that the "File to Process" that is indicated in the ProtectionPLUS wizard is the setup.exe file?

Your help is greatly appreciated. We're highly motivated to purchase the SoftwareKey System if we can be confident that the solution won't require special customization right from the start.

We do not have any experience working with Word .dot files, but we have had some success licensing Microsoft Access and Excel based applications.

This would require at least minimal source code modifications to add license checks in your VBA code. We would recommend starting with the Instant PLUS DLL and see if that is compatible and meets your needs since it would require the least amount of work and understanding of our system.

If you are able to provide a sample Word .dot file that we can take a look at we may be able to determine if this is an appropriate solution or not. If you can, please email it to support@softwarekey.com and reference this forum post.

No, you cannot wrap your installer package with Instant PLUS. Even if you could, the files the installer installs would not be protected.

Let us know if you have any further questions.
